Sgraffito planter/vase

An underwater landscape of sea creatures swimming through seaweed and kelp adorn  this sgraffito planter/vase. Sgraffito is Italian for scratched (carved). Blue slip (colored clay) is applied to a freshly thrown pot and the design is carefully scratched away leaving the raw clay exposed. The entire piece is then glazed in a clear glaze.

Item does not have drainage hole. If using as a planter, place small container inside for proper drainage. 

Wedgewood blue color. 

Care and use:

• Dishwasher and microwave safe
• Oven safe - bring dish to room temp before placing in heated oven

Items are handmade in my New England seacoast studio. They may be similar in shape and color, but no two pieces will be exactly alike. These differences are to be expected and make each piece of pottery a unique and personal experience!
