My Story

As the daughter of an avid oil painter, I always enjoyed being surrounded by art. I've often been described as artistic, yet I didn't focus on creating my own art until 2018 when I used watercolor and oil painting to work through the grief of losing my mom. The kitchen island became my studio space. Wet paintings filled many corners of our old farmhouse until my husband converted a storage shed into a beautiful art space where I could let my creativity explode. She Shed Art was born and the easel (finally) left the kitchen island!

While I'm not a professionally trained potter, I do have ceramics in my blood (my Great Aunt and Great Uncle worked at Marshall Studios back in the day). Most of my education and work has been in the medical field. My brief pottery history consists of a hand impression I made in kindergarden (I still have it) and various pieces of painted pottery I made with my kids at the local "paint your pottery" store (yes, I still have those too).

In November of 2020, I took an introductory pottery class to fulfill my dream of "throwing clay on a wheel". I instantly connected with the world of ceramics. It was an exciting, very challenging and eye opening experience for me. Over the next few months I built a home pottery studio and She Shed Art grew into She Shed Pottery Art! I am a member of a local pottery and printmaking studio where I am surrounded by many talented artists who inspire me to push my creative limits.

The majority of my work is wheel thrown. Bowls, mugs, vases, and various crocks, jars and jugs go through multiple design stages before they are ready for sale. I also enjoy hand building small animals, houses and my speciality, PEARS. Many of my surface design ideas come from the local rocky New England landscape or my husband's vegatable and flower gardens. There is an endless supply of inspirational beauty all around us!

Pottery is personal. Ceramic pieces may look similar in form and function, but each item is a piece of art. I hope your new "piece of art" brightens your room while sitting on a shelf, feels good in the hand while drinking a great cup of coffee or holds a hot bowl of savory homemade chowda'.
